KKW Beauty Review

Well guys, I can’t believe I’m saying this but I bought into the Kardashian franchise! I’m a little ashamed but also kind of excited because I love good looking skin and so concealers are probably my favourite product at the moment. In order to stay somewhat relevant and also because I was just generally curious, I purchased two KKW Beauty concealers and one of the brightening powders. How did they hold up through the day? Keep reading to find out!

First off, let’s talk about the packaging. I love pink and neutrals as I’m sure most of you know or could have guessed. So this is right up my alley. It’s chic and cute. The products feel like a good weight and are heavier than I was expecting. The actual amount of product you get is a hot topic for me… When you compare how the product looks to other concealers, it looks like you’re getting a lot less. However, packaging can really fool you, and in writing this post, I discovered I’ve been playyyyed. Let’s just compare for one sec here…

KKW Beauty concealer             $18USD/$23CAD 0.162oz = 0.009oz/$1USD

Tarte Shape Tape concealer    $27USD/$35CAD 0.338oz = 0.013oz/$1USD

UD All Nighter Concealer         $27USD/$35CAD 0.12 oz = 0.004oz/$1USD!

So if we learn only one thing from this post even though it’s supposed to be about KKW Beauty, please know that Urban Decay is a freakin’ RIP OFF when it comes to their All Nighter concealer. I’m honestly shook at how little product you get for the cost, when it doesn’t even look like that in the packaging.

Moving on…

I purchased two concealers in the shades 4 and 5. I wasn’t sure how true the descriptions were about the undertones on her website, so I did do a little bit of YouTube research in order to make sure I got shades that would work for me. Both shades work well for the lightness of my skin but there is a noticeable difference in terms of tone for them. Shade 4 is much more cool (pink-toned) and shade 5 is much warmer (yellow-toned). I kind of hoped this is what they would be like because I like having a warmer and cooler concealer to play around with. I’ll be able to wear these on their own or mix them if I need to. I bought the brightening powder in shade 1. It’s super soft and finely milled and has a soft sheen to it.

The Wear Test

So, if you didn’t get a chance to follow my instagram stories yesterday, I did a little vlog of how the concealer and powder wore throughout the day. I had said that I preferred shade 4 (more pink) because I thought that’s what I had initially applied, but it was actually shade 5 (more yellow) which is the tone I naturally lean towards with concealers. But the fact that I couldn’t see a noticeable difference until I compared the two just goes to show you how subtle the difference is. It wasn’t until I applied the other shade to my opposite eye that I realized what I had done and I did end up preferring shade 5 more. I applied the concealer under my eyes, on my chin, around my nose and a little bit on my forehead. I blended it out with my ring finger and then with a Real Techniques miracle complexion sponge. I set the concealers with the brightening powder using a Sephora Collection Pro Contour brush #79.  The powder had a nice sheen to it but wasn’t overly sparkly or glittery. It also wasn’t so matte that it took away from the finish of the concealer, which had great coverage while still looking like skin.

I ended up working an 8+ hour shift at work that day, so I didn’t get a chance to do a second update until around 4:30 but I was super impressed with how the concealer held up. Not much had changed and I was pretty busy, running around so I was surprised (in the best way) at how things were looking.

4:30 post-work check in

By the time I got home it was close to 9pm and I had been wearing the concealer for over 12 hours. This is far longer than anyone would usually wear makeup for, I’m sure, but I was pleased to know that if I did have to go this long wearing makeup that the KKW concealers could stand up.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I’m super impressed with KKW’s concealers and brightening powder. I went into this unsure of how these products would perform as they are super hyped up and sometimes brands like that are all walk and no talk, ya know? Price wise, for the two concealers and powder, I paid around $85CAD after shipping and taxes. Shipping was $14.95USD, I believe. Would I repurchase these guys in the future? Tough to say, because the Tarte Shape tape concealers are just as good, if not better, and are a better price point. So for me, that’s my go-to, can’t-be-beat concealer at this point. If I was gifted these concealers again I would re-use them, but I’m not sure I’d re-purchase them.
