Things To Do While Self-Isolating

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that due to COVID-19, most of the world is currently either on lockdown or enforcing self-isolation right now. People all over the world are being asked to stay indoors for a minimum of 14 days to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

While having an unexpected two weeks off work may seem like fun, the financial and emotional struggle is REAL. Once reality sets in and you realize there’s not much you can do within the confines of your home, things can get stale pretty quick.

So, I’ve compiled a quick little post of ideas that can potentially keep you occupied or entertained while quarantined.

If you live alone

TikTok- This app was huge before, but currently it’s taking a huge spike in popularity due to all the free time people have to make short little videos to keep themselves, and their viewers entertained.

Words With Friends- The online game of scrabble that you can play with people you already know or anyone else in the world using the app. Might as well brush up on your vocabulary, am I right?

Unsubscribe from every e-mail you don’t need or won’t respond to– Why not? You’ve got plenty of time.

Dance party- Lots of famous DJs from all over the world are hopping on to Instagram live and playing sets. It’s important to get up and keep our bodies moving, so if you want to do something physical, but workouts aren’t your thing, then give this a go!

Colour- Yes, that’s colour with a “U” because I’m Canadian, okay? Colouring is a great way to relieve stress or practice mindfulness. If you can get out of the house to grab a colouring book or you already have one, then great. If you don’t though, then you can either print off colouring pages from the good old world wide web, or just grab a scrap piece of paper and go to town.

Then here’s a few more ideas that are probably obvious and don’t need explaining, but I’m listing them anyways...

Binge a Netflix show, write or journal, clean your entire house or a room at a time, try cooking a new recipe, practice yoga, meditate, or FaceTime/Zoom with your family and friends.

If you live with a partner or roommate

Any of the above ideas are all applicable with a roommate or S.O. but there’s also lots of things to do that require two or more people, so here’s a few more ideas!

Card games- Yaniv is a new one for me that I just learned and it’s pretty damn fun! It would take me multiple paragraphs to explain it though and I’m still learning it, so for now, I would say it’s best to google it if you’re interested. There are also plenty of other games like War, Blackjack, Poker and even Go Fish if you live with kids. You could even learn a magic trick!

Board games- Twister, Monopoly, Jenga, Cards Against Humanity. Most of these can be ordered online too, so you don’t even have to leave the house to purchase them. Lastly, Nurf guns are not a board game, but from personal experience, they are VERY fun, even as an adult.

Workout together– Although I did mention this idea already, it can be more motivating to exercise when you have someone else to do it with. So be there for each other and make goals for daily or weekly workouts.

While the world is struggling together, it’s important that we do our part by staying home as much as possible and keeping a distance from others when in public. We will get through this.

Stay safe everyone! Much Love,

Cass
